Dear Friends, For months now, I’ve been urged by my good friend Jörgen Andersson in Sweden to write about this era of the Savory global network, which began with the Savory Institute in 2013. Perhaps now I will have the time. What an era it was! On August 19, all remaining staff positions, including mine, at the Savory Institute were terminated. The organization is transitioning to a new structure and role in the network. Throughout this year, I’ve had a lot of feelings around this moment I anticipated coming, and surprisingly, when it came, I felt calm, grateful and excited for what comes next. I received a lot of support and guidance from friends and advisors within the network, the larger regenerative community, and in my personal resource base. I spent a lot of time with my household holistic financial plan early in the year and created the conditions for this moment of losing full-time employment to come without panic. I’ve been working as a full-time salaried employee since 2007, when I graduated from my master's program at the University of Nevada, Reno, and entered the world of corporate digital media within local news. Work has shaped my family’s life. I went back to work when my daughter was three months old. She’s only ever known a working mom. Today, she started her junior year of high school. The idea of a different pace to life, if even for a little while, that includes more spaciousness and more “just being,” as my friend Leon Bucher from Germany says, is welcomed at this moment. Phases of transition are rarely one-dimensional. While the institute was fading, the global network was organizing, connecting, and growing stronger. Relationships nurtured at UVE blossomed like the zinnias and sunflowers in the garden during these late summer days. My daughter started her first job, and my son grew almost a whole shoe size in these same months. Life reorganizes, fills the void, and continues on. Here are some happy memories from my 10 years as the Savory global network coordinator and then director. Thank you for honoring this transitional moment with me. Onward, Abbey
